TN Forestry Association Conservation Education Contract Position Announced
The Tennessee Forestry Association has announced that the organization will be contracting with an individual to organize and promote conservation education to Tennesseans including the Project Learning Tree program, working with Teacher Conservation Workshops, partnering with various organizations and agencies to provide conservation training opportunities to Tennesseans of any age. Also, the individual will work closely with Tennessee's Sustainable Forestry Initiative Committee to provide information and education on the importance of certified wood across the state.

The Tennessee Division of Forestry is currently seeking exemplary candidates to fill two positions at Chuck Swan State Forest. Please distribute to your networks to help us cast a wide net in this short window of opportunity. JOBS (2): Chuck Swan State Forest (Union Co) State Forest Forester State Forest Supervisor The Tennessee Division of Forestry is looking for high performing individuals who like working in the woods and want to carrying on a legacy of sustainable forest management on Tennessee state forest system. The primary role of these two positions is to implement forest management activities on the 24,300 acre state forest. These two position registers will be open through Jan. 1, 2019. Job Description:
The west Tennessee Regional Urban Forester resides within the Forest Health and Sustainability Unit and is responsible for implementing urban forest management programs in western grand division of the state.

Specific Job Duties:
1. Provides input and guidance to Forest Health and Sustainability Unit Leader regarding urban forest management programs
2. Seeks opportunities and partnerships to grow urban forest management programs within the west Tennessee region

1. Actively develops and maintains working partnerships with other state and federal agencies, non-profit organizations and various conservation groups
2. Ensures Division urban forest management programs are relevant on a region-wide basis
3. Provides technical assistance and relevant information to homeowners, landowners, schools, communities, non-profits, municipalities and cities
4. Administers the Arbor Day Foundation programs (Tree City USA, Tree Line USA, and Tree Campus USA), urban riparian restoration, urban forest canopy assessments, outreach and education, wildland fire management, forest health and urban cost share assistance in the west Tennessee region
5. Partners with the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council to implement urban forest management programs and conduct outreach activities

TFA Forester Contract Job Position

Tennessee Forestry Association Contract Position Announcement


Education Requirements: Bachelor of Science Degree (or higher) in a Forestry Related Major from an Accredited University.

Description of Position: Independent Contractor Position with the Tennessee Forestry Association (TFA). The forester would work closely with Riparian Zone Buffer Projects in the Elk and Duck River Watershed Counties in Southern Middle Tennessee. The position would also administer the Tennessee Tree Farm Program . Goals to Recruit and Retain Tree Farms across Tennessee with a focus in the Elk/Duck River Watershed Counties. (Maury, Marshall, Bedford, Coffee, Giles, Lincoln, Moore and Franklin).

Experience: Must have 5+ years of forestry experience and specifically should have on-the ground experience, with knowledge of federal and state landowner assistance programs and the American Forest Foundation (AFF) Tree Farm Program.

Responsibilities: Work with Federal and State Agencies, NGO Representatives, others on the Elk/Duck River Watershed Steering Committee to promote forest management in the Elk/Duck River Watershed Counties. Grow the Tennessee Tree Farm Program, inspect/re-inspect Tree Farms, database organization, support TN Tree Farm Committee as needed. Other Tennessee Forestry Association duties as assigned.

Employment: Independent Contractor Position for at Least 1 Year, with Expectations to Continue 2-3 years. Periodic Reporting and Attendance at the TFA Office in Nashville.

Expense Reimbursement: Applicable Mileage and Expenses related to fulfilling responsibilities of position will be reimbursed by the Tennessee Forestry Association.
